Katy Perry (born October 25, 1984) is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. She is recognized for having had a significant influence on the pop music scene during the 2010s. At the age of 16, Katy Perry released her commercially unsuccessful debut album, Katy Hudson (2001), through Red Hill Records.

Katy Perry moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 in order to pursue secular music and took on the moniker “Katy Perry” from her mother’s maiden name. During her time with Java Records and Columbia Records, she recorded an unreleased album titled Fingerprints before being dropped. She then joined Capitol Records in April 2007 under a recording contract.
